“A 2011 Gallup poll reported that nearly eight in 10 college students wanted to “be their own boss.” Yet according to the 2015 Kauffman Index Startup Activity report, startup activity is well below what it should be, and entrepreneurship among young people has declined by 10 percent over the past 20 years, even as business remains the number one college major. Some speculate that crushing student debt is playing a part; others worry that today’s young people are more risk-averse than previous generations of entrepreneurs.
