Oregon Live – Bob Woods

“Most people are intimately familiar with the standards and measurements they must meet every day in their jobs. Whether it’s how quickly a fast-food customer is served and satisfied, the number of cases an attorney wins or how many RBIs a pitcher gives up — we all know what it means to meet a standard. Implementing change in any organization is a management function that is designed to reach a goal. Management in the public education arena is a combination of the school boards, administrators, teachers, parents and the public at-large, who all play a part in the education of a child. Standards, whether they be Common Core or any other system, set an expectation of a level of performance to be reached. If a new standard is put in place that is tougher than the standard that preceded it, a manager knows that the initial results will likely show a decrease in attainment. A good manager also knows that is not a reason to quit.”(more)
