“Experts predict more than 50 percent of careers in the valley will soon require a high degree of technical and computing skills, making school districts a vital pathway into the local workforce. To help fill the need, the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership and all three local school districts have developed a three-year program aimed at giving middle and high school teachers the tools they need to teach science, technology, engineering and math classes effectively. The program, which is funded by a $1.5 million California Department of Education grant, is in its second year. About 70 science and math teachers are participating in the program, and their students will be tracked to see if a higher proportion of them enter STEM careers.”(more)
