“In the spring of 2015, California joined several other states around the country in administering new assessments aligned with the Common Core State Standards, which emphasize problem-solving and critical and analytical thinking. The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium developed the tests to measure student achievement based on the new standards in math and English language arts/literacy. The tests form part of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress. The scores are viewed as a baseline to compare against student scores in the future.”(more)
