The Dispatch – Mat Bats

“The Davidson County Board of Education agreed by consensus Monday to move forward with research into a program that could forever change the way students learn and retain a secondary language. Dr. Sean McWherter, director of elementary education for Davidson County Schools, walked board members through the new language immersion program that is quickly gaining popularity in counties across North Carolina…“In Davidson County, we know the vision is to graduate all of our students to be future ready and globally competitive,” McWherter said. “Our job as a school district is not to just produce a product or a student that’s competitive with Randolph County but to produce students that are competitive with students from all over the world…Language immersion programs provide very unique, very powerful opportunities for students that really strengthen their cognitive brain functions.””(more)
