The Sydney Morning Herald – Andrew Stevenson

“IVANKA CHAMINGS knew from the age of seven that she was going to work in science but, decades later, it remains a rare choice for girls. Mrs Chamings became a research and development manager at Schneider Electric and is profoundly concerned women are missing out on rewarding careers in science, engineering and technology fields – at least in part because they are still given doll sets rather electronics kits or games consoles for Christmas. In an effort to stimulate inquiring minds Schneider is pairing with Robogals, an international, student-run organisation, to trial a hands-on robotics workshop in Sydney today. About 50 children, many under 10 years old and at least half of them girls, will have the opportunity to build and program a robot, while learning about how engineering and robotics are present everywhere in the world around them.” (more)
