“Millions of California students have tossed aside No. 2 pencils and for the first time are sitting down at computers to take standardized tests this spring. Making the switch from pencil to mouse was bound to happen at some point, but there is some concern that state schools might not quite be ready for change. That’s because when a pencil breaks, it takes about 10 seconds to fit it at the sharpener. When a computer crashes there isn’t always a quick fix. A survey of school information technology folks found that while most feel good about the number of computers and the networking capability to access the online world, they were far less optimistic about having enough people to maintain it all.”(more)
