“Massachusetts has a unique challenge. Our students score remarkably well on state, national, and international math and science exams. But in 2011, the number of Massachusetts high school seniors indicating an interest in a STEM major on their SATs was 36.8 percent, below the national average of 43 percent and far below a competitor state like North Carolina at 47.3 percent. So while our students are world leaders in math and science aptitude, they pursue STEM careers in alarming low rates.” (more)
