“One of Cindy Darden’s favorite parts of the day is when she picks up her 3-year-old daughter Kailey at a Head Start center in Glendale and hears what she has to say. These days, Darden is getting an earful about math from her daughter and her daughter’s teachers at school – a recognition of the need for children to master basic math concepts at an early age…Darden’s involvement in her daughter’s math and word learning, whether at home or out and about, uses lots of words to reinforce basic math concepts…The initiative, known as the Early Math Family Engagement Project, is one of the first programs in the nation to emphasize the key role parents can play in teaching early math at home and in other environments.”(more)
