“Saying it’s time to radically change the beleaguered Detroit Public Schools, Emergency Manager Robert Bobb on Wednesday identified 45 schools as candidates for a new system of charters. At the same time, Bobb said the district will close eight schools to refocus financial resources at DPS, which has a $327 million deficit and enrollment declines of up to 10,000 students a year. Many of those students are flocking to charters run by independent operators.”(more)
