That’s a question governments, teachers and parents are asking around the world as they work out how best to shape young minds to compete in a global race…The British International School in Shanghai Puxi and Nord Anglia International School Shanghai, Pudong have become two of the first schools in the world to benefit from a new collaboration between Nord Anglia Education and The Juilliard School in New York…The new curriculum – the first such collaboration entered into by Juilliard – is being rolled out in 10 inaugural schools this year, including schools in China, Singapore and Thailand. The thinking underpinning the curriculum is that it is about more than simply teaching young people performing arts. Instead, it seeks to inspire a love of learning through music, dance and drama – instilling an enthusiasm that translates across the board to other subjects. But even more than that, the schools argue that there is a clear body of evidence that suggests that learning music boosts performance in other disciplines such as maths.”(more)
