“Excessive protein intake in the first two years of an infant’s life, possibly through baby formula, could be contributing to childhood obesity, new research has found…Dr Rebecca Hill from the University of Queensland’s Child Nutrition Research Centre said while obesity was multi-factorial, a high intake of protein at an early age could play a role. “There is quite a large range of evidence now that supports the theory that too much protein intake in early childhood leads to overweight and obesity,” Dr Hill said. “There has been a very large study looking at over 1,500 infants that has shown that the high protein intake is leading to later overweight and obesity.””(more)
