“Imagine being out on the job, or in the community, unable to effectively communicate or understand. “In this day and age we have so many different people in our culture and our society,” said Emily Gonzalez, teacher, “It’s important that we take a step back and look where they’re coming from.” Gonzalez teaches Spanish at West Vigo High School…She says the need to learn a foreign language continues to grow. As our communities become more diverse, many employers are encouraging candidates to learn more than one language…For Gonzalez, as students prepare for the real world she hopes they will consider the true benefits behind learning foreign languages. “It expands your world view and your cultural understanding,” she said, “There is something to be gained from every culture, every different culture has something to offer.””(more)
