“Arizona become the first state in the nation to approve legislation requiring high school students to pass the U.S. citizenship test on civics before they can graduate — part of a growing nationwide effort to boost civics education…Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, an Arizona native, has supported the initiative. She’s made civics education a prime focus in recent years. “We’re failing to impart the basic knowledge young people need to know to be effective citizens,” O’Connor said at an event in New Hampshire in September.”(more)
